Wild Accents is a recap of any designs we’ve made where you may have found us in the wild! From nerdy convention creations to fun local events this is where you can see what we did and how we did it.
Wall-E - My Favorite Movie
I saw Wall-E for the first time at the opening day premier on a Disney Cruise. I believe I was second in line into the theater. A Pixar animator came on stage before the movie and talked about his experience animating. I brought home this Wall-E and Eve LE 300 jumbo pin, this opening day Disney Cruise Line LE 750 pin, two story books, and an extreme amount of love for this little robot.
I am a sucker for innocence in storytelling, and Wall-E is one of the most innocent characters I’ve seen in film history. I was captivated by a movie that created so much emotion and impact with so few words.
Here are some of the creations I made to bring my own human version of my favorite pair to life!
Buy N Large Cooler

I am always concerned about practicality so I knew we needed a bag of some kind. So why not the very ‘bag’ Wall-E carries on his back, the BNL cooler?
Igloo sells a Mini Playmate Cooler in the iconic red and white from the film. One side was blank, so I recreated the BNL sticker logo as a vector image and had my Cricut print it out in vinyl. The other side though… I took some acetone to the ‘Playmate’ logo and was able to remove most of the color, but a faint pink outline remained. I decided to make a larger Buy N Large vinyl sticker which covered it perfectly.
I opted not to make the cooler look grimey as my husband who would be portraying Wall-E said he didn’t want to go the full dirty look. So we left it clean, and I can’t wait to display it somewhere after the convention.
Eve Plant Patch

Most cosplayers of Eve include her plant insignia on their chest to help differentiate her from other full-white wearing cosplays. I planned to simply buy the one available online, but it became unavailable when I went to order it.
So… I taught myself how to create embroidery files from vector images! It’s actually not that difficult. I used Inkscape, a free program for creating vectors and a plug in called Ink/Stitch to turn the images into files that an embroidery machine can read. The tutorials they have are pretty easy to follow and because Eve’s plant insignia is a simple design, it was easy to mock it up.
I luckily have a family member close by who has an embroidery machine, and so we got to sit back and watch it miraculously create something out of thread. It was really cool.
I wanted the patch to lay as flat as possible and be removable from my outfit so I ended up attaching a magnet to the back in a felt pocket. The other magnet will go under my shirt and securely attach it to my person.
Hal!

I love that the only friend Wall-E has on Earth is the only thing that we think can survive the apocalypse - a cockroach. Absolutely treasured cinema.
I was very picky about which cockroach I chose to represent Hal. I wanted the antennae to be long enough and he needed to be large enough to be seen on Wall-E’s shoulder. I ended up choosing this 5.1 inch electric cockroach toy. I removed the battery (after playing with it and watching our cats chase it around) and made a felt pocket for a magnet and then super glued him to the felt. I have a raven shoulder plush from Disney which came with a nice magnet wrapped in felt which I used to secure it to Wall-E’s shoulder. I could have easily made another felt pocket with another one of my magnets and that would have worked as well.
Harness Apparatus

The outfit for Wall-E didn’t feel complete without having some semblance of his exhaust vents and solar charge level panel. I also needed somewhere to actually put “WALL-E” because the pants we chose have so much distressing there was no room to put any text.
I tried to reimagine what Wall-E would need as a human working in trash, and of course he’d need some sort of tool belt. Well a belt wouldn’t get me the right placement for his apparatus… but this tool harness did! It had the perfect two spots for the different pieces and enough space on the strap to place his name.
The vinyl was cut from permanent vinyl sheets and adhered with fabric glue. They stuck pretty well, there’s some lifting on the edges but it seems they will hold.
The only thing not pictured that I created for this cosplay was our plant in a boot. I bought a cheap pair of boost from Goodwill, stuck floral foam inside, added a piece of felt on top, and stabbed a fake plant stem inside the foam. Wham bam.
This was so fun to make due with what we could find and reimagine these two lovable characters in a new way.
